The team behind this injectable comparison

The Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital is led by four consultants working inside a tertiary general hospital. Ke He, MD, is responsible for the medical review of this site. Choosing between relaxing a muscle and adding volume genuinely involves the other three: the surgical boundary where neither substance is the answer, the facial rejuvenation assessment that recognises descent, and the dermatological view of skin that injections did not improve.

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Injectable aesthetics · facial assessment · the boundary between relaxing and filling

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital and head of its skin and laser aesthetic service — and she is the lead physician of this site. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, she has worked on the clinical front line in skin laser and injectable aesthetics for more than 20 years, serving over ten thousand patients.

Muscle-relaxing injections and dermal filler are not two strengths of one treatment, and Dr. He does not present them that way. Her part of this site is the assessment that comes first: whether a line is produced by movement or by lost volume, which areas have deflated, where the face has descended rather than flattened, and therefore which of the two substances — or neither — addresses what the patient is describing.

Clinical focus

  • Facial assessment that separates movement lines from volume loss before anything is injected
  • Muscle-relaxing injectable and dissolvable gel filler planning, and the honest limits of each
  • Recognition and management of injectable complications, including vascular events
  • Reversibility: when a filler can be dissolved and when a result has to be waited out
  • Non-surgical facial rejuvenation, and the findings that belong to surgery instead

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Laser Medicine Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Facial Rejuvenation Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Chongqing Plastic Surgery Quality Control Center
  • Published 5 papers, holds 5 national patents, and introduced 2 new clinical techniques

The finding decides, not the product

A crease that appears on movement and a hollow that is visible at rest are two different problems, and they are not treated by the same substance. A face with both is not being asked to choose between them. The assessment decides which finding is present and which treatment addresses it, and a clinic that offers one product for everything is describing its stock rather than your face.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Plastic surgery · complex cases · the surgical boundary

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team he provides the surgical perspective and the tertiary-hospital backstop — the assessment when an operation is the honest answer, and the hospital-level care for the rare complication that needs it.

Descent and excess skin are not injectable problems, and Dr. Wang's part in this comparison is saying so. A face that needs tissue repositioned, or skin removed, is a face for which more filler or more relaxation will not produce the change the patient is asking for.

Clinical focus

  • Center leadership and multidisciplinary case review
  • Surgical assessment when an operation is the honest answer to descent or excess skin
  • Hospital-based care for the rare complication that needs theatre-level management
Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Aesthetic surgery · facial rejuvenation · honest referral

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is refinement and honest referral: he is the person who says so when an operation will do better than an injectable or a device.

Dr. Mao is the person who says so when an injectable is the wrong tool. Where the fold is caused by sagging rather than by lost volume, filling it adds weight to tissue that is already sitting low, and he would rather explain that than inject it.

Clinical focus

  • Aesthetic surgical assessment and refinement of contour and asymmetry
  • Honest referral when surgery outperforms a course of injections
  • Shared case planning within the four-physician team
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · skin conditions · delayed reactions

Dr. Yongbo Jia is a dermatologist within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is medical skin assessment — diagnosing and managing pigment and barrier conditions, and treating skin that a device or an injection has irritated.

Not every change on a face is a cosmetic finding. Rashes, pigmentary conditions, acne scarring and inflammation are assessed as medical problems, and a delayed reaction to filler or a nodule is a dermatological question as much as an aesthetic one.

Clinical focus

  • Medical skin assessment behind injectable treatment plans
  • Diagnosis and management of pigment and barrier conditions
  • Dermatologic care of skin after irritation or a delayed reaction

Not sure whether it is movement or volume?

An assessment looks at your face at rest and in movement, and separates a line produced by muscle from a fold produced by lost volume. We will say plainly which substance — if either — addresses what you are describing, and what we would advise if the answer is neither.
